Creating a place for Dad's coffee

Dad comes over every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for dinner - it’s our weekly ritual.  He arrives at 5:30, sits in the leather chair closet to the television,in time for the evening news. While he watches the news, I make dinner.  That’s the routine.  Dad sits in that particular chair so he can read the closed captioning.  Unfortunately, that’s the one chair that doesn’t have an end table so to solve the problem I got a little creative.

The Ocean Calms My Soul Mirror

For many people the ocean brings them a true sense of peace. When I found this verse I knew it would be perfect to create a small decorative mirror to hang in a beach cottage, or at home, as a reminder to “reflect” on the calming effect of time spent by the ocean.

Faux Succulent Wreath

Real succulents are amazing, and since they need little care and thrive in hot and dry areas, they are awesome for making wreaths, planting in unexpected containers, etc., but this wreath can also be taken inside and used throughout the winter months without worrying about watering, temperature fluctuations, etc. Right now the chain craft stores have awesome faux succulents available, so make your wreath now, or watch for those clearance sales at the end of the season and make yourself one for next spring & summer!

Rock Your Sparkle with Rinea®

For our final blog hop in 2016, designers were invited to spark their creativity with Rinea® Double-Sided Paper Foil from Global Crafting.  We loved the product so much we agreed to play again and came up with even more creative projects for you to enjoy!

Rinea paper-foil is a specialty crafting material imported from Germany. It is made up of two thin layers of colorful aluminum foil with a sheet of paper sandwiched between them. This creates paper-like sturdiness and stiffness with the shininess and malleability of foil. It will maintain the shape however it is bent or folded without wrinkling, making it ideal for a wide variety of arts and crafts projects. The paper-like characteristic also makes it perfect for embossing and die-cutting.  It can easily be cut with regular, or decorative edge scissors and punches and textured with decorative paper crimpers.

Rinea foil paper comes in many interesting color combinations including bold, pastel, and metallic colors with glossy, matte and embossed finishes giving you lots of options to play with. This is one of the most popular projects made with the foil, showing a combination of colors.  You will especially love that each sheet of metallic foil has a color on each side! For example:  Blue on gold, Red on gold, Green on gold, Pink on gold, Purple on gold,  Silver on gold and Gold on gold.

Not just for holiday decorating, Rinea paper foil can be used for projects throughout the year. Check the gallery of ideas here then see what DCC member designers have created:
Please don't forget to comment here and on the designer's blog about the projects you like.
Rinea paper foil can be purchased online @ www.rinea.com

Etchall

It's National Craft Month and we're kicking off our creativity this year with a blog hop for etchall®

As you know, glass etching is an extremely popular way to up-cycle and personalize glass pieces, but did you know you can also use it to etch china, porcelain, marble and even slate?  etchall is available as a crème, or a liquid, (dip'n etch).  Both work equally well and, most importantly, both are RE-USABLE!  Yes, this means you can use it multiple times!  Use once, then put it back in the container to be used again and again and again.... how cool is that!  It’s a wonderful, easy to use product, perfect for home dec projects as well as up-cycling - that is turning something plain into something classy. Neither the cream nor the dip has a noxious odor and the crème is creamy, not gritty.  These products create a real, permanent etch, not fake, so it is very important to read the directions carefully. You can also check the website for more detailed information and in depth tutorials if you haven't used it before. Please note, the product is also ACMI certified.

You can use stencils to create an etched design on glass, or dip entire pieces into dip'n etch to turn a smooth shiny surface into an etched surface,  perfect for either painting, or stamping designs, since the surface now has "tooth" (rough texture).

The following designers received samples of etching product to work with.  Some of them are etchall Ambassadors and have used etchall before, and some are working with these products for the very first time.  Follow the links to see their different ideas and techniques then use the special DCC code at etchall for a special discount when you order your own beginner set to work with.  This offer is valid thru March 31st, 2017.

Creativation 2017

Each year Designers, Maker/DIY'ers, Buyers. Retailers, Suppliers Manufacturers, Distributors, Editors, Publishers and Bloggers attend Creativation (formerly the Craft and Hobby Association Mega show).  This is the largest trade show in the US where visitors come to see all the new, creative products presented by manufacturers from all over the world.  The show isn't open to the general public, so we thought we'd share a round up of blog posts about the show. These will give those of you who couldn't go to Phoenix, a sneak peak at some of the creative opportunities coming to your stores this coming year.

Each of us returned home with notes about the products we can't wait to work with and sometimes we received samples to try.  After you've seen all the photos and read thru our posts, come back here and let us know which products you're most excited about in the comment section below. We may just select one of the comments at random and send you a box of a few new products to create with.  Let's go.............

Hope you enjoyed the ride!
